Welcome To
Seth Soorajmull Jalan Balika Vidyalaya

With women empowerment and upliftment as its cornerstone, Seth Soorajmull Jalan Balika Vidyalaya was established in 1914 by Shri Mohanlal Jalan to promote girl child education in Kolkata. The goal of the visionary leader and educationist was to empower women from every section of society through education. He has left a rich legacy behind. Starting with only four girl children, today, the school boasts 2500 students.

The school uses modern pedagogy, advanced learning techniques such as the VAKT (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, and Tactical) method and teaching materials to make the classes engaging and effective.

Besides academic enhancement, the school focuses on the holistic development of every child and organises several extracurricular activities and outreach programs. The students' emotional, mental and physical well-being is also nurtured through systematic and modern approaches.

A Holistic Approach To Education

Education that goes beyond text books...

Emotional Wellbeing

The school creates a safe space for the students to emote and express themselves through meditation and lifestyle classes

Physical Wellbeing

To promote the physical well-being of every child, the school organises Yoga, Taekwondo classes & other sports activities.

Mental Wellbeing

We prioritise and nurture students' mental health through counselling sessions and meaningful connections with each child.

Message From The President

Seth Soorajmull Jalan Balika Vidyalaya was conceptualised by my great-grandfather Soorajmullji and built and started by my grandfather Mohanlalji in the year 1941 and then nurtured by my uncle Tolaramji. It is my privilege to be the fourth generation of our family to try and further improve our school.

The aim has been to educate our girls and make them confident for the future. Our school has focused its attention on the holistic development of students.

Social responsibility and awareness have been our focus and we are proud on the diversity of our students, who come from all backgrounds and without any prejudice to race, religion or caste.

Hemant K. Jalan

President, S.S. Jalan Balika Vidyalaya

Once the application closes in December, the review process starts in January, where each form and important document are carefully examined and shortlisted. Selected students have to appear for a written entrance test and sit for an interview with the admissions board as a part of the process.
