Independence Day Celeberation (2025)
On 15th August, 2025, Seth Soorajmull Jalan Balika Vidyalaya celebrated the 79th Independence Day with great enthusiasm. The ceremony commenced with a flag hoisting ceremony led by our respected Chairman, Mr. Bharat Kumar Jalan, along with the Principal, Nupur Banerjee ma’am, and Vice-Principal, Nitu Guha ma’am.
The cultural program began with a patriotic song sung by the students of the secondary section. Then the students of Higher Secondary showcased their love for the nation through a dance. At the end, everyone sang the national anthem.

Independence Day Celeberation (2025)
On August 15, 2025, Seth Soorajmull Jalan Balika Vidyalaya celebrated its 79th Independence Day. The flag was hoisted by the Chief Guest, Mr. Bharat Kumar Jalan, and students of our school enthusiastically participated in a cultural activity that included dance drama, music, recitation of poems, and thoughtful speeches reflecting on India’s journey to Independence. At last the event was ended by the National Anthem sung by all.

Inter-house English Elocution
On 1st July 2025, students of classes 6 and 7 lit up the school auditorium with their powerful performances in the inter-house English elocution competition. Their words echoed confidence and flair – a delightful display of young talent and eloquence indeed!

Holi
On 8 March 2025, the school celebrated Holi with organic colours, joy, and music. Students danced to energetic Holi songs, spreading cheer and festive spirit. It was a beautiful celebration of unity and happiness.

International Mother Tongue Day
On 21st May 2025, International Mother Tongue Day is celebrated worldwide and was also a part of the celebration at SSJBV. Children of all classes from 6 to 10 actively participated to show the variety of language present worldwide. The show was a success since all the students participated and the entire school celebrated the magnificence of languages.

World Dance Day
World Dance Day celebrated in SSJBV gloriously celebrated Dance as an expression of emotion. This performing arts gave children ample scope of entertainment and an opportunity to nurture their talents of expressing through dance.

EARTH DAY CELEBRATION
The students of our school celebrated Earth Day on 22nd April,2025. Students participated in planting saplings, creating art and by making cloth bags to raise awareness about environmental conservation. The students of Seth Soorajmull Jalan Balika Vidyalaya distributed handmade bags to the shopkeepers and customers free of cost.They also continued the “Say No to Plastic Bags” campaign this year. Our girls aim to build a greener neighbourhood wherever they go. While distributing the cloth bags, the students also educated the shopkeepers on the harmful effects of using plastic and the benefits of using cloth bags.

SCIENCE WEEK
A Science Week celebration was held at the school from 24th February to 28th February,2025 with the aim to foster scientific curiosity and enthusiasm among the students.Students engaged in hands-on experiments like stimulating a volcanic eruption using readily available materials. Students presented a wide range of models such as a DNA model and a neuron model.Quizzes and games were organized to test the scientific knowledge of the students. This week aimed to nurture scientific temperament through hands-on learning and interactive exhibits.

International Day of Yoga
Bharat Scouts and Guides, West Calcutta Division proudly participated in the celebration of yoga at the Raj Bhavan, Kolkata.
With dedication and discipline, our young Guides from Seth Soorajmull Jalan Balika Vidyalaya Guide Group showcased the true spirit of unity and wellness.
The event highlighted the harmony of body, mind, and soul — guided by the timeless wisdom of yoga.

Independence Week Celebration ( 2023 )
While the country observed India’s 77th Independence Day on August 15, 2023, our girls at Seth Soorajmull Jalan Balika Vidyalaya celebrated Independence Week from August 14 to 25th, 2023. One of the students from the Primary section delivered the opening speech, while other students from different classes participated in various cultural activities like singing, dancing, fancy dress competitions, recitals and other activities. Our teachers took special care to prepare the students and imbibe a sense of team activity.

Literature Day (Primary Section)
The Literature Day Event was held for grade level 1 to 5 on the 23rd of July, 2025 at the school common hall. The event aimed to promote literacy, foster a love for reading and bring book enthusiasts together, creating a platform for discussion and networking.
Grade Level 1 & 2 -opted for the famous Disney Fairy Tale such as Cinderella and Disney film The Lion King respectively , while the students of Class 3 to 5 did research work on the renowned authors such as Shri Rabindra Nath Tagore, Ruskin Bond, R.K Narayan etc.
The students showcased a diverse literary works through role play, story sequencing , character analysis and interviews and re-telling of the story through simple rhymes and other forms of literary expressions.

Hindi Debate:
The 2023 Independence Week celebration got off the ground with a Hindi debate. Students from Class XI came forward to share their ideas and opinions for and against the motion. The stage was thriving with friendly banter, camaraderie and confidence.

Hindi Diwas:
Hindi Diwas was celebrated as a week-long event at SSJBV with great enthusiasm to promote the beauty and significance of Hindi – spoken nationally.
Day 1: Essay Writing Competition for Classes 6 and 7
Day 2: Quiz Competition for Classes 7 and 8
Day 3: Singing Competition by Class 6 students
Day 4: Hindi Exhibition by Class 9 – showcasing models and charts on grammar, literature, and lesson themes
Day 5: Radio Play and Comic Skit by Class 10, spreading social awareness through literature
Day 6: Debate Competition and Folk Song Presentation by Classes 11 and 12
The celebration reflected the rich cultural heritage of Hindi and encouraged students to express themselves creatively.

Sports Week:
In the spirit of International Yoga Day, Seth Soorajmull Jalan Balika Vidyalaya celebrated Sports Week from June 17 to 22, 2023. It started with students of Classes VI and IX practising yoga, followed by different inter-house sports events. The girls also participated in Kho-Kho and Basketball matches.

Science Exhibitions:
The best way to learn and experience the true essence of science is to get hands-on. We believe in creating an environment where the children can express their creativity and nurture their scientific aptitude while having fun. Seth Soorajmull Jalan Balika Vidyalaya organizes science fairs for its students from the higher secondary section who exhibit their models, experiments, projects and charts and put up a spectacular show.

Rabindra Jayanti
Rabindra Jayanti is not just a commemoration of Tagore’s birth anniversary; it is a celebration of his profound impact on our society and his message of universal harmony, love, and humanity. To celebrate this auspicious day, the teachers of the secondary section sang a melodious song followed by dance drama by secondary students.

Jalan Jayanti
We celebrated Jalan Jayanti on September 4 with great enthusiasm. Our students organised a meaningful programme highlighting women’s empowerment and other important issues. We honoured our board exam achievers with certificates and books, while academic toppers from all classes received certificates, medals and books. Students who maintained perfect attendance throughout the year were also honoured with medals and presents for their efforts.

Republic Day Celebrations
Republic Day celebrations take place with patriotic fervour and zest in schools as the children of Primary and secondary learn how the great sons of the motherland have fought to attain freedom and make India a sovereign state. Therefore, the children feel inspired and participate actively in the Republic Day ceremony and celebration.

Book Fair
Book fair in school is a great event, held in our school every year. These fairs are often organised in collaboration with book vendors or publishers, likes scholastics, and can include a wide variety of genres and age-appropriate reading materials. The primary goals are to encourage reading, provide access to new books

Science Week
Every year science week is celebrated in our school with great fun. Throughout the week science quizzes are held, various competitions based on different topics are organised. Students present projects or experiments on various subjects, in the exhibition. The categories include Biology, Maths, Physics and Computers. Students also makes models on robotics, human bodies. Parents are invited to see the hidden talents of their child and encourage them.
